1 lb. ground beef
1 tbsp fat
1/2 cp finely cut peeled onion
1/4 cp finely cut celery
1/4 cp finely cut green pepper
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
1/4 cp ketchup
1 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
4 hamburger buns
1 - Brown meat slowly in hot fat.
2 - Add onion, celery, and green pepper.
3 - Cook until vegetables are tender and meat is almost done.
4 - Stir in seasonings and remaining ingredients except buns and pickles.
5 - Let simmer 5 or 10 minutes or until well thickened.
6 - Split buns.
7 - Toast them.
8 - Heap with hot filling.
9 - Serve on plate garnished with strips of dill pickle.
Makes 4 servings.
These buns with tray of condiments, can be the center attraction
of a terrace supper for teen-agers. Cold drinks and a favorite dessert,
such as an ice cream pie (bought) will make everybody happy. Burger
mixture can be cooked over barbeque grill and buns ccan be toasted
on same grill.
