Garlic Slices for Salads

1/2 cp butter or margerine
1/2 clove garlic, peeled and mashed
6 slices French or Vienna bread cut 1 to 1 1/2 inches thick
1 - Start oven at moderately hot (400 degrees F.).
2 - Melt butter or margerine in an 11-by-7-by-1 1/2-inch baking pan.
3 - Remove pan from oven.
4 - Add garlic.
5 - Arrange bread in baking pan, turning slices once to butter both sides.
6 - Let stand 10 minutes.
7 - Remove garlic.
8 - Then heat bread in oven 10 minutes or until very hot and browning.
Makes 6 servings.
Bring hot to the table in the baking pan and serve with green salad
or with cold cuts, cheese and potato salad. A fine beer supper idea.
