1 cp brown sugar
1/2 cp butter or butter substitute
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla flavoring
1 tsp nutmeg
1 egg, well beaten
1/2 cp sour milk
1 tsp baking powder
1/3 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 - Cream butter or butter substitute and sugar.
2 - Add egg and flavoring.
3 - Beat thoroughly.
4 - Sift flour.
5 - Measure 1 cp and sift with baking powder, baking soda, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon.
6 - Add alternately with milk to the first mixture.
7 - Beat thoroughly.
8 - Add sufficient sifted flour to make a soft roll dough.
9 - Chill.
10 - Turn onto lighly floured board.
11 - Roll in sheet 1/2 inch thick.
12 - Cut with floured cutter.
13 - Spread half of the cookies with grape or other jelly.
14 - Make 3 small openings with a thimble in each of the remaining cookies.
15 - Fit over those spread with jelly.
16 - Place on slightly oiled baking sheet.
17 - Bake in hot oven (425 degrees .) 10-12 minutes.
