Sour Milk Doughnuts
1 cp rich sour milk
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 egg, well beaten
1 cp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 tbsp melted shortening
1 - Sift flour, measure, and sift with baking soda, salt, and nutmeg.
2 - Combine egg, sugar, shortening, sour milk, and dry ingredients.
3 - Add sufficient flour to make a soft roll dough.
4 - Chill dough.
5 - Turn onto lightly floured board.
6 - Roll in sheet 1/3 inch thick.
7 - Cut with floured cutter.
8 - Fry in deep fat (3654 degrees F.) until brown.
9 - Drain on crumpled absorbent paper.
10 - Sprinkle with sugar.
