1 lb round steak
1/2 cp minced onion
3/4 cp diced turnip
3/4 cp diced celery
3/4 cp diced carrots
1 cp canned tomatoes
1 bay leaf
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1 - Cut the steak in 2" cubes;m dust with salt and pepper.
2 - Roll in flour and brown in savory drippings.
3 - Add the vegetables and seasonings and boiling water to cover.
4 - Simmer until the meat is tender, about 2 hrs.
5 - Replenish the water if necessary.
6 - Thicken the meat stock with 1 tbsp flour smoothed to a paste with 2 tbsp cold water.
7 - Serve the steak surrounded by the vegetables.
