Buttermilk Crumb Cake
1/2 cp shortening
1 cp brown sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2 cps flour
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ginger
2 tbsp molasses
1 cp buttermilk
1 tsp baking soda
1 - Cram the shortening, sugar, salt, flour and spices.
2 - Measure out 1 cp of this mixture and set aside.
3 - To the remaining add the egg, beaten, the molasses, and buttermilk into which the soda has been stirred.
4 - Beat; and transfer to an oiled baking pan, making the mixture an inch deep.
5 - Spread the reserved crumb mixture over the top.
6 - Bake in a moderately hot oven, 350 to 375 degrees F., for 30 minutes.
