Orange and Date Cake
1/3 cp shortening
1 cp sugar
1 tsp orange extract
1 1/2 cps cake flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2/3 cp milk
orange and date filling
1 - Cram the shortening; and work in the sugar.
2 - Add the eggs, slightly beaten and the orange extract, and beat until well blended.
3 - Sift the dry ingredients together; and add alternately with the milk to the first mixture.
4 - Transfer to 2 opiled and floured layer cake pans; and bake in a hot oven, 375 degrees F.
or until firm in the center and brown on top.
5 - Remove from the pans; put together with the orange and date filling; and cover with orange frosting.
6 - Decorate with orange sections and pitted whole dates.
