French Chocolate Cake
1/2 cp shortening
1 cp sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cps cake flourbr> 2 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp salt
1/2 cp milk
French Chocolate Icing
1 - Cream the shortening until smooth and light like whipped cream; and gradually work in the sugar.
2 - Add the vanilla and eggs, slightly beaten, and mix until well blended.
3 - Sift the dry ingredients together; and add alternately with the milk to the first mixture.
4 - Transfer to 2 oiled layer cake pans, making the mixture higher at the sides than in the center
5 - Bake in a hot oven, 375 degrees F. for 30 minutes, or until firm in the center and brown on top.
6 - Remove from the pans; cool; and put together and cover with French Chocolate Icing.
