2 1/2 squares(ounces) chocolate
1/2 cp milk
1 cp sugar
2 tbsp shortening
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cp milk(additional)
1 tsp vanilla
3/4 tsp baking soda
1 1/8 cps caker= flour
1 - Melt the chocolate over hot water; then add the first half cup of milk combined with beaten egg yolk.
2 - Stir until it thickens. Add the sugar and shortening; and transfer to a mixing bowl.
3 - Add the vanilla, the remaining milk, the four and salt, sifted together, and the baking soda
dissolved in a tsp of boiling water.
4 - Fold in the egg white, shipped stiff; trnsfer to an oiled baking pan about 8" square.
5 - Bake in a moderate oven, 350 degrees F. for 35 minutes. Cut in squares for serving.
6 - If desired, the cake batter may be strewn with a few chopped walnut meats before serving.
