1/4 cp shortening
1 1/3 cps sugar
3/4 tsp salt
1 tsp nutmeg
3/4 tsp cinnamon
4 1/2 cps flour
4 tsp baking soda
1 cp milk
Fat for deep frying
1 - Beat the eggs; melt the shortening; and stir into the eggs with the sugar, salt, and spices.
2 - Sift the flour and paking powder together. Add the milk to the first mixture; and beat in the flour mixture
3 - Turn part of the dough onto a slightly floured boarde; flour the rolling pin; and roll the dough out to 1/3" thickness
4 - Shape with a doughnut cutter; in the meantime half fill a kettle with fat; and heat it until it will brown
a bit of bread in 55 seconds.
5 - Gently slide the doughnuts into the hot fat.
6 - Turn as soon as they rise to the surface; and cook about 4 minutes, turning 2 or 3 times.
7 - Drain on crumpled paper toweling or napkins; and serve dusted with confectioners' sugar flavored with
a little addtional ground cinnamon.
