1 cp scalded milk
1 yeast cake dissolved in 1/4 cp water
4 1/2 cps bread flour
1/4 cp shortening, melted
3/4 cp sugar
1 egg, beaten
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 - Cool the milk until lukewarm
2 - Then add the yeast dissolved in 14/4 cup water; and beat in 1 1/2 cps flour.
3 - Cover closely, and set in a warm place. Let rise until spongy (about 2 hours.
4 - Then add the remaining ingredients stirring well.
5 - Cover closely again and let rise 3 hours.
6 - Cut down and turn onto a floured board. Roll to 1/4" in thickness.
7 - Shape with a doughnut cutter, and let rise until doubled.
8 - Fry in deep fat hot enough to brown an inch cube of bread in 55 seconds.
9 - Drain on crumpled paper napkins or toweling; and just before serving, roll in powdered sugar
mixed with a little cinnamon.
