1/3 cp shortening
1/2 cp boiling water
1/2 cp flour
1/8 tsp nutmeg
grated rind half a lemon
1 - Combine the shortening and water; and when boiling, add the flour and nutmeg all at once.
2 - Stir until the batter forms a ball. Add the lemon rind; cool a little; and beat in the eggs, one at a time.
3 - Drop by teaspoonfuls into deep fat hot enough to brown a bit of bread in a minute (360 degrees F.)
4 - Drain on crumpled paper, dust with powdereed sugar; and serve with anyn kind of melted jellly, maple syrup, or honey.
