2 cps flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar
4 tbsp shortening
3/4 cp milk
1 qt strawberries
1 cp granulated sugar (additional)
1 - Sift together the dry ingredients
2 - Work in the shortening with the back and edge of a spoon until the mixture looks flaky.
3 - Sir in the milk; and turn the dough onto a slightly floured board.
4 - Pat to 1/2" in thickness; and shape into large rounds with a biscuit cutter.
5 - Bake 18 minutes in a hot oven, 425 degrees F.
6 - Then split; butter; and put together and top with the strawberries
7 - These may be prepared while the shortcake is baking.
8 - Wash, hull and slice them; mix with the additional sugar and let stand a few moments in a warm place
to start the juices. Serve with or without cream.
