Coffee Bread Pudding
1 cp strong black coffee
1 1/2 cps milk
1 cp soft bread crumbs
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cp sugar
few grains salt
1/8 tsp baking soda
1 - Combine the coffee and milk; and scald.
2 - Pour over the crumbs and let stand until they have absorbed most of the liquid and the mixture is cool.
3 - Separate the eggs; beat the yolks, sugar, vanilla and salt until creamy and add to the coffee mixture.
4 - Add the soda dissolved in 1 tbsp warm water; and stir in the egg whites, whipped stiff.
5 - Transfer to an oiled pudding pan or dish; and set in a pan of warm water.
6 - Bake in a moderate oven, 350 degrees F. for 40 minutes, or until a knife, when inserted comes out clean.
7 - Cool slightly; and serve with top cream.
