Southern Chocolate Cake
2 cps sugar
1/2 cp butter
1/2 cp vegetable shortening
1 cp sour cream (or buttermilk)
1 cp crushed walnut meats
2 1/2 cps pastry flour
4 squares chocolate
1 scant tsp soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp vanilla flavoring
1 - Mix shortening and sugar until creamy, add yolks of eggs, beaten well.
2 - Beat and add sour cream and nuts dredges with part of flour.
3 - Stir in flour sifted with soda, baking powder and salt.
4 - Add chocolate (melted) and vanilla.
5 - Stir thoroughly and fold in whites of eggs beaten stiff.
6 - Pour into a well greased and floured pan.
7 - Bake at 350 degrees F. for about 40 minutes.
8 - This makes a large cake.
