1 pint lentils
1/4 tsp soda
2 minced onions
1 - After washing 1 pint lentils, let them soak overnight.
2 - Then, when they have been drained cover them with warm water with 1/4 tsp soda dissolved in it.
3 - Let them heat to the boiling point.
4 - After they have boiled gently for 1 hour, drain them again and pour on enough fresh boiling water to cover them.
5 - Now let them boil for 1 1/2 - 2 hours longer or until you can crush a lentil quickly in your fingers.
6 - Drain them again, in a colander.
7 - Into 2 tbsp butter melted in a frying pan stir the lentils, seasoning to taste with salt and pepper.
8 - Let them stand over the fire 15 minutes, stirring them all the time.
9 - If preferred, put with the lentils 2 minced onions.
