Baked Ham with Apple Sauce Glaze
1 whole ham (8 to 10 lbs)
2 cps apple sauce
1 cp brown sugar
whole cloves for decorating
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1 - Buy a fine quality, well-cured ham which does not require parboiling.
2 - Scrub it, rub surface with mustard and place fat side up in roasting pan.
3 - Bake in slow 300 degree F. oven ubntil almost tender, allowing 25 minutes per lb
(A little over 4 hours for 10 lb ham).
4 - Forty-five minutes before ham is done, remove from oven, carefully cut off rind except
a strip around the shank bone.
5 - Rub little more mustard over fat, score it diagonally to form diamond shaped pieces.
6 - Mix apple sauce, brown sugar and ground cloves, spread over surface of ham.
7 - Insert whole cloves if desired.
8 - Return ham to oven, finish baking. During last 10 minutes, increase heat to 450 degrees
F. to form a nice crust.
