Meat and Cabbage (Old German Recipe)
1 lb hamburger
1/3 cp uncooked rice
2 tbsp butter or other shortening
1 onion, sliced fine
1 egg, well beaten
1 can tomato soup
juice of 1 lemon
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp parsley, minced
1/2 cp celery, chopped
salt and pepper 6 cabbage leaves
1 - Season hamburger well with salt and pepper and add the egg.
2 - Mix well.
3 - Mix in rice.
4 - To make sauce, melt the butter and add the onion and cook several minutes.
5 - Combine tomato soup and an equal amount of water and add to onion.
6 - Add the parsley, celery, lemon juice, sugar, salt and pepper, and cook for 10 minutes.
7 - Wash the cabbage leaves and boil until tender.
8 - Put 2 tbsp of meat mixture in each leaf and roll tightly.
9 - Secure each roll with a toothpick.
10 - Plce in saucepan and pour sauce over rolls.
