1 qt sauerkraut
2 tbsp shortening
1 onion, cut in small pieces
1 raw potato, grated
1 tsp caraway seeds
1 - Melt the shortening and add the onion and cook until brown.
2 - Add the sauerkraut and cook for 5 minutes.
3 - Add the caraway seed and potato, cover with boiling water and cook 30 minutes in.
and uncovered vessel over a slow fire.
5 - Cover the kettle and cook 30 minutes longer.
6 - Brown sugar or an apple may be added to give a different flavor.
