Soft Ginger Bread
1 cp sugar
1 cp New Orleans molasses
1/2 cp butter or other shortening
3 cps flour
1 cp sour milk
2 tsp ginger
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp nutmeg
2 eggs, well beaten
1 tsp soda dissolved in 1/4 cp boiling water
1 - Cream the shortening and sugar, add the eggs and molasses and mix well.
2 - Sift the flour and spices and add alternately with the milk to the first mixture.
3 - Stir in the dissolved soda.
4 - Pour into well-greased cake pan and bake in a moderate oven (350 degrees F.) 30 minutes.
