Grossmutter's Pound Cake
1 lb sugar
1 lb flour
1 lb butter
1/2 tsp nutmeg
wine glass of brandy
1 - Work butter and sugar together until very creamy.
2 - Add eggs, one at a time, alternately with flour.
3 - Each egg should be worked in for at least 5 minutes.
4 - Work this way for an hour.
5 - Should there be any flour left, add it to the mixture.
6 - Add the nutmeg and brandy
7 - Put into a very deep pan, lined on sides and bottom with greased paper.
8 - Bake on small stand in lower part of a moderately slow oven (325 degrees F.) for two hours.
9 - If coal stove is used, watch the fire very carefully.
10 - The oven temperature must not rise or fall suddenly.
