2 cpds stewed apples (hot)
1/4 cp sugar
3 eggs, separated
2 tbsp butter
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tbsp lemon juice
1/4 cp powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 - Combine the stewed apples, sugar, butter, lemon juice, and spices and mix well.
2 - Beat the yolks of eggs and add to the apple mixture and beat until light.
3 - Pour into a buttered baking dish and bake in a hot oven (400 degrees F.) about 15 minutes.
4 - Remove from the oven and cover with a meringue made by beating the whites of eggs stiff, adding to them the powdered sugar and vanilla.
5 - Return to a moderately slow oven (325 degrees F.) to brown the meringue.
