Dutch Apple Cake or Kuchen

    1 1/2 cps sifted enriched all-purpose flour
    1/2 tsp salt
    2 tsp baking powder
    1 tbsp sugar
    4 tbsp butter
    1 egg, beaten
    1/2 cp milk
    4 large sour apples

    Topping

    2 tbsp sugar
    1/2 tsp cinnamon

    Instructions

    1 - Sift the flour with salt, sugar, and baking powder.
    2 - Cut in the shortening.
    3 - Add milk to the beaten egg and stir into the first
    mixture to make a soft dough
    4 - Spread the dough in a greased 7" X 11" shallow pan.
    5 - Cut the pared and cored apples into eighths.
    6 - Arrange slices in parallel rows on the dough with the
    pointed edges down.
    7 - Sprinkle with the topping mixture.
    8 - Bake in a preheated 400 degree oven for 30 minutes.
