Grapenut Ice Cream
1/2 cp sugar
1/2 cp hot water
1 2/3 cp evaporated milk
1 egg, beaqten
1/2 cp cold water
1/4 tsp salt 1 1/2 tsp plain gelatin
2 tbsp water 1 tbsp vanilla 1/2 cp grapenuts
1 - Carmelize sugar to light brown.
2 - Add hot water slowly, stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved.
3 - Mix 2/3 cp of the milk, the beaten egg and the cold water together
and add to the sugar mixture.
4 - Cook, stirring constantly until mixture coats the spoon.
5 - Remove from the heat and add the gelatin which has been soaked
at least 5 minutes in the 2 tbsp water. 6 - Cool, add the other cp of milk and the vanilla.
7 - Pour into a dessert tray and freeze 20 minutes.
8 - Pour into a bowl and beat thoroughly. Add grapenuts.
9 - Put back in dessert tray and repeat the 20 minutes freezing
and beating operation twice more. 10 - Finish freezing. Serves 6 generously
