Aunt Jenny's Crock Pickles

2 qts cider vinegar
1 medium sized onion, washed, peeled, and sliced
2 tbsp dry mustard
2 tbsp salt
1/2 oz white vinegar root
2 tbsp whole cloves
2 (three-inch) sticks cinnamn, broken
1 tbsp shole peppercorns
1 tbsp powdered clov4es
1/2 lb (1 3/8 cps packed) brown sugar
2 qts midget cucumbers, washed and drained
1 - Mix all ingredients, except cucumbers, together in a 1-gallon crock, or large glass jar.
2 - Add cucumbers.
3 - Cover crock or jar with folded cheesecloth, then with lid.
4 - Let stand in cool dark place at least 1 month before using.
5 - Better if allowed to stand 3 months.
Mkes 2 quarts pickles.
