Nectarines or Peaches

2 qts firm ripe nectarines or small peaches
2 1/2 cps (packed) brown sugar
1 cp cider vinegar
1 (two-inch) stick cinnamon, broken
1 - Wash fruit, peel nectarines.
2 - Scald peaches; peel.
3 - Stick a clove into each
4 - Heat sugar, vinegar, cinnamon, and 1 tbsp cloves in agate or enamel kettle.
5 - When boiling add fruit.
6 - Cook until tender, about 10 minutes.
7 - Place in hot, sterile glass jars.
8 - Pour hot sirup pver to within half an inch of the top.
9 - Seal at once.
10 - Let stand a few weeks before serving
Makes about 3 pints.
