Pickled and Spiced Vegetables Information

Terma for piclked dishes are used loosely.
Who can define a pickled fruit, a spiced vegetable when in
some cases both pickling fluids, that is vinegars, and spices are
used? And of course, it doesn't matter. If you make a fine
spiced vegetable mixture and want to call it a pickle, there is
no reason why it should not be so called. Through long usage
and the family-to-family exchange of recipes through the
years, terms have been carlessly applied, and recipes named
according to the ideas of the farm wife who prepared the
concoction and put it up in a stone jar.
